Twist client wins industry award
Belford-based Stablewood Leisure, owned and run by the Johnson family, has been awarded the North East Business Award for Tourism and Hospitality for Northumberland and Tyneside.
The business was set up in 2011 by Tina Johnson, who acquired a set of five holiday cottages on the beach at Budle Bay. Tina, who had a desire for her three sons to live in beautiful Northumberland, had a strong drive to build a sustainable business which they could all be involved in. Since then, Stablewood Leisure has grown a tourism portfolio to include 26 luxury, dog-friendly cottages, an award-wining gastro pub called the Apple Inn and a pizzeria and creperie; The Apple Core.
For 2020, Stablewood Leisure is evolving its operation by launching an intimate wedding venue at The Apple Core and adding four new luxury cottages to its portfolio.
Stablewood Leisure – the umbrella company – is solely owned and run by the Johnson family, with each member having their own niche in the business. Tina heads up guest relations at Stablewood Leisure, whilst son Danny manages the day-to-day operations and development activities. Danny and his wife, Aimee, also run Beau Monde; while Tina’s newly married son, Johny and his wife Lauren head up the two eateries at The Apple Core and The Apple Inn.
Tina says: “As a family, we are totally delighted to have won the North East Business awards for Tourism and Hospitality. From our simple start in 2011, we are delighted that with the support of our excellent staff, we have a great team to deliver our goal of providing our guests with a personal and enjoyable experience, centred around our collection of beautiful cottages, in Budle Bay and Lucker, and our two eateries and Spa.”
